Pam and I spent a wonderful
3 days together challenging each other to make a quilt using batiks and reproduction (Civil War) fabrics. From that encounter,
the idea to create this book was born.
There are eight separate challenges, each featuring a color or fabric assignment and a block design or concept to
work with. How each quilter will interpret these two things is what makes this book so unique. Some of you may remember
the Design Challenge column I wrote for Traditional Quiltworks many years ago. This book is a spin off of those challenges.
Pam and I both knew
that working on that first quilt together gave each of us the nudge we needed in our own personal quilting. From time
to time each of us experiences a creative dry spell. We figured if we needed something to spur us on, then chances were
good that you might as well.
The challenges are
perfect for quilters everywhere. Whether you live in an isolated region with no quilt shops, have no close quilting
friends, or your small group is looking for a new project to take on, these challenges can be adapted for nearly every situation.
Some of the challenges are even good for entire guilds.
You won’t find specific patterns, but you will find a wonderful assortment of
quilts meant to whet your appetite and make your fingers itch to the point you just can’t wait to get in the sewing
room/quilt studio, and start pulling fabric.
